The exhibition includes a few contemporary artworks created when Lucille was only 15 years old.  Now, at 21 she presents a fuller portfolio that spans acrylic on canvas, textiles, and collage;  all serving as channels reconnecting her to the Republic of Belau.

“Old to me | Owed to me” claims the right to access her heritage across distance, especially in this era of AI.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lucille Montelongo is a multi-racial Belauan visual artist based in Long Beach, CA, whose genealogy also traces Mexican and German roots. Her developing body of work focuses on exploring her Belauan heritage. She views each work as a form of documentation that she hopes carries itself through the future generations in her lineage. She currently studies Drawing and Painting at California State University, Long Beach; and she’s an artist informed by Belauan traditional knowledge.
